Armadyne Droid Head

Introduction:

The movie Elysium showcased a variety of intriguing items, from weapons and modifications to full body exoskeletons. Its detailed world-building has long been a golden standard for us. It is no coincidence, that one of our earliest product was the renowned AK47 aiming modification kit. Weta Workshop’s craftsmanship on that item was exceptional, but the pinnacle of their contribution were the androids which depicted in various forms and jobs throughout the movie. Mostly they did law enforcement and defense tasks, but we wanted to make a twist and create something new, based on the already existing, outstanding prop design. This is how the idea of the Armadyne construction worker droid was born.

Materials and Processing:

The droid head was made from high quality PLA filament, with a precision 3D printer. Due to its massive size and numerous parts, it takes several weeks to print. Each component has a reinforced inner structure and a completely unique design. Following the printing process, each part underwent a careful, extremely detailed sanding procedure before being coated with the base colors. After the assembly, we have added the fine details, the ultra-realistic signs of wear, and everything necessary to bring this outstanding prop to life! The polished glass eye-parts have a built-in red LED and they need a single, standard 9V battery to light up. The side fans are also work from the same loop and each function has a separate switch at the rear control panel. As always, our main goal was to made this prop as real and authentic as possible. No detail is too small, if this droid head could talk, it would definitely has a story or two to tell…

This prop is customisable and can be made in various colors with different amount of weathering. If you are looking for a red/defense force or gold/black variant, then please don’t hesitate to contact us!
